"I am revisiting this topic of enhancing students creativity using iPad apps for the second time this year. Almost 10 months ago I featured here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning a selection of some great apps that can be used in class to boost students creative thinking; and today and after having reviewed hundred of new educational apps since that post, I decided to compile an updated version of that list and include some newly featured apps in the category of creativity. Of course by creativity I mean giving students the chance to take their learning to the next step, one in which they are active producers and participators in knowledge building. Creativity is all about creation and iPad is an ideal device to support this creative thinking. Check out the apps I have handpicked for you today and share with us if you have other suggestions :"

"Educators are beginning to see the potential of using mobile devices and apps for ongoing professional development as well as to improve literacy and cognitive development for learners. Apps are equipped with several features that motivate learners to create stories, presentations, and projects that are hands-on and use their creativity as well as their critical thinking skills. After spending copious amounts of time publishing "Hot Apps 4 HOTS" to iBooks, I felt I should allocate some time to focus on web apps and how they too can be used to support higher order thinking skills."

I'm confused. I think I might've missed something... Why do I need this app? All it does is what AirPlay does already, doesn't it? If one has an AppleTV connected to either a projector or a TV, using the built-in AirPlay iOS 5 feature I can see whatever I do on my iPad on the screen (projector or TV). AND if I simple connect my iPad to a projector via cable 90% of the apps have VGA out - it works. SO WHY do I need this app?

From reading the documentation it appears that this app will enable mirroring with the original iPad. Not having access to an original iPad at the moment I can't confirm this though. The app also works on the iPhone 4 according to the site. "This week's pick is Vodio - a social videos app for the iPad that some have said is a bit like Flipboard for videos. Although there are some similar features, I don't think that's a very accurate comparison - but nonetheless this is quite a nice app to enjoy videos on your iPad."

"I have yet to find the perfect Digital Portfolio app that I think I would use exclusively in a Visual Arts class. Some apps can be used as graphic portfolios or as beautiful sketchbooks, others are great at sharing. Not all of the apps available are great at all of these things. I have spent a heap of time trying to find one and would be more than happy for someone to send me the name of one they are using successfully. I can't help but think about ways to use this in education. "
